We get a lot of questions from our clients about publishing their videos online. So today we wanted to share some of the tips we give them in order to optimize their videos and increase their reach.
Tip 1: Upload Your Video Everywhere!
Videos aren’t just for company websites. Some of your customers may be Facebook users, or
Instagram lovers, or YouTube searchers. The best practice is to upload your video to where
your customers are.
Tip 2: Create Searchable Titles
When people search online, they are looking for a solution, not a business. A descriptive title
will make your video more discoverable. Be sure to include the product or service and the
location if you have the room. So instead of “Mia’s Italian”, try “The best pizza in Melbourne, FL
– Mia’s Italian Restaurant”
Tip 3: Make Your Video Descriptions…Descriptive!
Fill out that description box! Normally the character limit is high, so the more that you can add
with keywords the better. One practice is to transcribe the audio from the video into the
description.
BONUS TIP: Put your contact info (website, phone number, etc) at the top of the description to
make sure that it appears “above the line.”
Tip 4: Use Lots of Tags!
Tags are still important for SEO. Make sure to not only use your name and your product but
also your location, surrounding locations, common search terms that apply, sometimes even the name of your competition.
Tip 5: Upload “Natively” to Sites
Sure, you can upload your video to YouTube and then copy and paste the link to Facebook or Twitter, but that video will only appear as a thumbnail image and not your actual video. Viewers would have to click the link and be sent to YouTube in order to watch it. It also won’t be as discoverable for SEO.
But if you upload your video directly to each site, it will in most cases, play automatically. And it will be significantly more searchable.
